WHO knew that a free 5km time trial with 13 amateur runners in Bushy Park, London in 2004 would become a worldwide community-building event attracting 2 million registered runners in 12 countries.

Parkrun has not only expanded rapidly around the world, but also across our country since 2011, with events taking place in 73 venues around South Africa.

Dog and cat haven needs new space

JUST like many animals living at Pet Pals are looking for a new ‘forever home’, Pet Pals Animal Sanctuary is itself looking for a new place to house the facility which is home to over 170 cats and dogs.

The sanctuary, which is the only one of its kind in East London, has been in existence for the past five years, providing a safe and loving home for abandoned cats and dogs.

Pet Pals founder Sue Kriel said that their five-year lease on the Holm Hill property off the Old Gonubie Road was not renewed, forcing them to find land on which to build a new sanctuary for the animals before the end of November this year.
